Miracle of Silence

Silence is an amazing word. It holds various meanings at varied layers. While your tongue is only an organ helping you to talk it is most often your mind that disturbs the silence. In silence or quietness of anything you understand its natural flow. You become the observer and act detached to the environment. For eg. when you want to observe an animal habitat in some jungle you prefer to sit at a distance hold your binoculars and keep observing their(animal) actions...you see them , you listen to them but you do not judge them, you do not change anything and most important you do not interefere even when you see one animal hunting the other why because it is their natural self.

Unfortunately in our world we cannot sit at one place and let things happen, not because we do not get the opportunity to observe but because our mind never gives us a silent moment. Yes it has reasons to do so in the veil of creating a perfect world it is constantly busy changing and judging every one else but self. Since we cannot really run away we all need silence. Real true silence from the mind.

Silence from mind can help you stay composed even in the worst of commotion. You can be attentive even when the world is dancing around you. Think of a situation where you stand in the middle of a road on the divider close your eyes and listen ...the commotion of the heaviest of vehicles will give you silence of mind and suddenly you will have a flash of everything about you in thoughts. Though it won't last long but it is a good example to tell how silence would be like.

For silence to stay inside you and to observe its immense power.. thoughts need to be profound . For thoughts to be profound your mind has to adhere to a certain ideology. But ideals are hard to work at and difficult to stay at, because you work at ideals offered from outside like religions, teachers , parents etc . We have never developed our own logics and ideals and even when we do so our one ideology contradicts another ?? :( . All this because we are still an active part of the system. One can never be an observer when inolved in it. Eg. you cannot hunt an animal and yet wonder why am i hunting? At the same time... do it before to form an ideology or later as part of guilt.

Silence resides inside you, so do the answers inside silence. It is like a seed you need to water it , provide it sunlight and see how your own tree grows.

adios

Oh I need more of this-I so want the silence..the mind to shut off for at least sometime...see peace outside and within...

And I know you can tell me more...
I am always amazed at how you make so much sense that even experienced in life people would fail to bring out!

Hi shreya,

As usual, wonderful thoughts! I love your writing. at times i wonder,"How come her thoughts are so profound and so full of sense!!"
why is it shreya we want everyone around us to be perfect though we ourselves are imperfect? we expect gratitude for the kindness we show..expect..expect..expect.. when will we stop expecting or is it right to stop expecting When the creator Himself expects us, His created beings to be good!!
Even i need to learn to talk shreya. But you trust someone and talk to them and they break your trust and at the end of the day you curse yourself for being vulnerable...next option is..keep everything to yourself..introspect and learn to grow...

Hi nirmala :) thank you for your lovely comment. I just place my thoughts in a simple way it is my readers who make sense out of it, that's my job i love simplifying things.

Now coming to your comment i have a few points to make.
1st I am not sure if God really expects us to be good ... because there is nothing white and black in life it is all in perspective. I feel God is the most loving souls of all of us and his %(percentage) of purity is undoubtable. All he/she wants is that all other souls feel as happy as he is, he is trying to uplift us to his worth. Like parents do ....the diff being that human parents stress more on material fulfillment for happiness while God stresses more on emotional happiness because he knows the truth of long term happiness. So we should cut the myth that God is expecting anything from us. He is always giving always. If a child is wanting to change then God is the 1st one to rise up and help. We just have to look out for his signs.

2nd point Our mind is trained in a way that we needs words to put faith for eg. if someone has promised you with words that I am going to be there with you all the time we just accept it on face value. Externally there can be n number of situations that can change life forever but still we feel that the other person who has promised you should be capable enough to overcome all of that and still keep your promise and trust. We are not ready prepared to give that benefit of doubt to the other person.
I am not saying not to trust people but once you trust someone just place a thougt in your mind that even if things don't work out as I want I will still be happy I will still be brave and face whatever comes. I'd give but not expect. It needs lot of strenght and sacrifice if you make your happiness dependent on that object. But if giving is in your nature then everything falls smoothly.

For now just understand that expectating from people is our bad habit like addiction but it is possible to have life where expectations are really low or nill. It will eventually make you stable and happier.

Sorry for the long comment but you come up with apt questions which needs detail attention.
:) I hope i am able to explain some part of your comment.

Thanks a ton shreya for your time, and for your sensible reply.

i am sorry i said God expects us to be good which is not the right word perhaps. but i feel He has some expectation - may be He wants us to be perfect and loving like Him.

well, my question is - can a human being live without any expectation? supposing i call you ten times, don't i expect you to return my call at least once? when you don't bother to call, i'll start wondering "where do i stand in shreya's life? may be she doesn't want to be disturbed" then i withdraw trying to nurse my hurt.

i agree with you dear we are the happiest if we do anything without any expectation, but it is a wee bit difficult :)

i do try not to make harsh judgements 'coz things do happen in people's lives which we may not even be aware of...the following story was en eye opener for me which i'd like to share with you.

""A doctor entered the hospital in hurry after being called in for an
urgent surgery. He answered the call asap, changed his clothes and
went directly to the surgery wing. He found the boy's father pacing
furiously in the hall waiting for the doctor.
Once seeing him, the dad yelled: "Why did you take so much time to
come? Don't you know that my son's life is in danger? Don't you have
any sense of responsibility?"

The doctor smiled and said: "I am sorry, I wasn't in the hospital and
I came the fastest I could after receiving the call...... And now, I wish
you'd calm down so that I can do my work"

"Calm down! What if your son was in this room right now, would you
calm down? If your own son dies now what will you do?" yelled the
father angrily

The doctor smiled again and replied: "I will say what Job said in the
Holy Book "From dust we came and to dust we return, blessed be the
name of God". Doctors cannot prolong lives. Go and intercede for your
son, we will do our best by God's grace"

"Giving advice when we're not concerned is so easy" murmured the father.

The surgery took some hours after which the doctor went out happy,

"Thank goodness!, your son is saved!" And without waiting for the
father's reply he carried on his way running. "If you have any
question, ask the nurse!!"

"Why is he so arrogant? He couldn't even wait a few minutes so that I
ask about my son's status" the father asked the nurse minutes after
the doctor left.

The nurse answered, tears coming down her face: "His son died
yesterday in a road accident, he was at the burial when we called him
for your son's surgery. And now that he saved your son's life, he left
running to finish his son's burial.""

NEVER JUDGE ANYONE - you never know how their life is & what they're
going through. Think abour this for a moment.

Once again, i love your blog as they are very thought provoking and tickle my lazy brain. Thank you.

love you

Hi Nirmala,

1st of all please don't be sorry my blog encourages questions and I'd be rather happy with questions and criticism than with praises because those help me grow more. Explain you that why God doesn't expect gives me a better and clearer perspective. :)

Ok now coming to God expectation question... let us 1st understand what and when an expectation happens. For a human like us we expect when we want something in life... something that can give us happiness... something which will be able to solve our worry immediately or in long term.

Now think again does God really need to be happier than he is ? if it would be so would he be God? Would he be happier when i turn good? God has played his dice ceated the world which has its own laws and if he wants he doesn't need even interfere in them. For he is aware we are not flesh and bones so he knows what one sows one gets then why should he worry or expect me to turn good?

When he is trying to uplift his beings he is only trying to help us realise our worth our true nature of love and happiness that is stored inside us. He does not expect us , it is when we do a step or two towards our true nature when we call him to help us .. he shows us that your true nature demands this. He is kind and loving and protective so when we don't listen to him challenge him like AB bacchan in deewar did :) he still smiles because he knows we are so unaware of our nature.

Now nirmala I agree living without expectations is wee bit difficult but not impossible. Actually it is this thought we should remove from our mind that is it so difficult my God how will I do this :). I don't live without expectations completely too everyday lives we have so many things to do that we mess our mind in expecting people to do something or other. But the easiest way is that we start with big things forget small actions concentrate on relations that are important to you. Be generous try and thing why that relationship is important to you, if it is then would you not consider that the other person might be in some real work. Atleast we can create this this thought and hold control on your anger. But make a point to do them for your very close relations give +ve energy to them and results show sooner that encourages you to try this on unknown people.

I still make mistakes , i still have some grudes but i have been successful to bring pace and love into my close relations. And I make it a point to talk to my God everyday.. so that i keep receiving his energy to keep continuing.
Try it who knows you might feel good with this too. :)

Welcome my dear :)
